Ramadan: Sultan of Sokoto declares Monday, first day of Shawwal

The Leader of Muslim Council of Nigeria, His Eminence, Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar CFR Amir has declared Monday 2nd of May, 2022 as the first day of Shawwal.

This is coming after the failure to spot the moon on the 29th of Ramadan.

This signify that the Ramadan for 2022 will be 30th.

A statement from the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) on Saturday evening read;

“Assalaamu alaikum,
His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto has declared Monday 2nd May as the first day of Shawwal.
No positive sighting claims were received from members of the National moonsighting committee and other Emirates.
The Sultanate will release an official statement shortly.”

Also, an earlier statement emanating from the office of Mudir of Markaz, Agege, His Eminence Sheikh Habeeb Adam El-Ilory, revealed that Monday, 2nd of May, 2022, will be the first of Shawwal, hence, Eid-fitr day.
