Manchester United, Arsenal jostles for Marco Asensio?

Marco Asensio’s future at Real Madrid is a topic of hot discussion at the moment. It had looked like the player was set to stay but now, over the last few days, rumours have emerged that the Spaniard is looking for a way out in search of regular football and Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that he could end up leaving.

Asensio has made just one appearance this season, and that too as a substitute, and as a result, it is not hard to understand why he might be keen to leave Real Madrid, especially in a World Cup year.

One of the clubs who had been linked with him are Manchester United. In fact, rumours suggested that the Red Devils were determined to make a transfer bid around €30 million to sign Asensio.

But since then, Manchester United appear to have moved to the verge of signing Antony from Ajax and as a result, it looks like their interest in Asensio might have come to an end for the summer. As reported by Wettfreunde, Fabrizio Romano said regarding the situation:

“Marco Asensio has been offered to many important English clubs by his agent over the past two weeks, including Arsenal and Man Utd.

“Right now he is not the priority for Man Utd. He was one of the options in case the Antony deal didn’t go through. But now it’s almost done, so that’s not the case. And I don’t see them signing another winger at this point.”

Thus, things just got even tougher for Asensio. There are merely days left in the summer transfer window and his future is still pretty much up in the air.

Now, it remains to be seen if Arsenal decide to make a move for him or not. The Gunners are believed to be looking for a winger at the moment after letting Nicolas Pepe leave on loan.

Let’s see what comes out of their rumoured interest in Asensio and whether it leads anywhere or not. Otherwise, he might have to stay on at Real Madrid for the season and fight for his place in the team.
