EPL: Leicester to miss two key players ahead of visit to Old Trafford

Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers has ruled out Jamie Vardy out of Saturday’s visit to Old Trafford.

Manchester United host the Foxes in what will be our first Premier League game for three weeks and with the top-four race in full gear.

United sit sixth in the table, behind both Arsenal and Tottenham, meaning three points are vital to continue their push for Champions League football next season.

Leicester have won each of the last three meetings across all competitions but Vardy’s absence is a boost, considering the former England international has scored six goals against the Reds during his spell at the King Power Stadium.

“We’ll see really. We just work day by day really. He’s certainly not fit for the weekend but we’ll assess it over the next week or two weeks,” said Rodgers in Thursday’s press conference.

Another Leicester player who won’t be involved at the weekend, or indeed for the remainder of the campaign, is Wilfred Ndidi.

The Nigeria midfielder has undergone an operation after suffering a knee injury during the Europa Conference League tie with Rennes and will play no further part in the Foxes’ season.

Ndidi, who also miss Nigeria’s world cup playoffs with Ghana during the international break will likely be replace with Nampalys Mendy.

“He has had surgery and will be looking to get back in June,” Rodgers added.

“Papy Mendy has come in, we thought he was leaving last summer but he has come back in and he’s always been professional.”

Young full-back Luke Thomas is a doubt for the game but Saturday’s visitors will have two defenders back as former Red Jonny Evans and the highly rated Wesley Fofana are in the running to make the squad.

Ralf Rangnick will hold his pre-match press conference at 13:30 BST on Friday afternoon.

The German is expected to give an update on Edinson Cavani, who picked up an injury with Uruguay this week.
